The Houston Astros decline option on Doug Brocail

The Astros have declined their 2009 option for 41-year old righty reliever Doug Brocail making him a free agent. Brocail pitched in 72 games (0 starts) for the Astros in 2008 and he was 7-5 with 2 saves, a 3.93 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He has now pitched three years in Houston covering 131 games (11 starts) in which he was 14-14 with 3 saves, a 4.21 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. The Astros might consider bringing Brocail back if the price is right as he pitched pretty well for them in 2008.

UPDATE: The Astros have re-signed Doug Brocail to a 1-year, $2.5 million dollar contract for the 2009 season. The Astros also have a club option for the 2010 season. This was a smart move for the Astros as Brocail did a good job for them in 2008.
