The Houston Astros have acquired 31-year old lefty starting pitcher Randy Wolf from the Padres for righty starting pitcher Chad Reineke. This doesn’t seem to be a good fit for the Astros as Wolf was not pitching well despite pitching half his games in pitching heaven (Petco Park). Wolf has started 21 games for the Padres this season and he is 6-10 with a 4.74 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. Look for Wolf to have problems pitching in the Astros home park which is a bandbox. Wolf has now pitched in 233 games (229 starts) in his major league career and he is 84-76 with a 4.30 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. The Padres gave up 26-year old righty starting pitcher Chad Reineke to get Wolf. He as the #7 prospect in the Astros’ farm system coming into this season according to Baseball America. He pitched in 20 games (19 starts) in AAA ball this season and he was 5-9 with a 4.41 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. Don’t expect miracles out of Wolf who will not help the Astros make the playoffs this season.
